Home Depot Washer and Dryer Clearance: How to Get the Best Deal
In this guide 7 sections
How washer and dryer clearance works at Home Depot
Washers and dryers don't usually get yellow tags on a shelf like a drill bit. Most clearance deals come from four places:
- Floor models. Display units the store sells to make room.
- Open box. Returned units, often unused or barely used.
- Scratch and dent. Units damaged in shipping or in the store, usually cosmetic.
- Old models. When a brand releases new models, the old ones get cleared.
Almost all of these are one unit at one store. They often aren't shown online. The way to find them is to ask in the appliance department, and to check more than one store.
For more on all appliance types, see our Home Depot appliance clearance guide.
When to look for a washer and dryer deal
| Time | What you'll find |
|---|---|
| Holiday appliance sales | Discounts on new washer and dryer pairs, often with free delivery or haul-away promos |
| When new models arrive | Older models marked down to clear space |
| Any time | Open-box and scratch-and-dent units as returns come in |
| Black Friday | Some of the biggest appliance promos of the year. See Home Depot Black Friday |
A holiday sale on a new pair can beat a small clearance discount, and it comes with a full warranty. A deep markdown on a floor model or scratch-and-dent unit can beat both. Compare before you decide.
What to check before you buy
- Does it run? Ask to see it powered on or filled if possible, or ask what the store's testing covers.
- Where's the damage? A dent on the side that sits against a wall doesn't matter. A cracked door or control panel does.
- Is everything there? Hoses, power cord (for some dryers), stacking kit, manuals.
- Gas or electric dryer? Make sure it matches your hookup. A gas dryer needs a gas line, and an electric dryer usually needs a 240V outlet.
- Warranty? Ask whether the manufacturer warranty still applies and if you can add a protection plan.
- Returns? Get the return terms for that unit on your receipt.
- Delivery and haul-away? Clearance units may not include free delivery. Ask, or plan your own truck and help.
Pairs vs single units
Clearance often gives you a washer or a dryer, not both. That's fine if:
- you only need one, or
- the matching unit is on sale elsewhere, or
- you don't care if they match.
If you need a matching stacked pair, a holiday sale on a new pair is often the safer buy.
Is there a Home Depot appliance outlet?
No. There's no separate Home Depot outlet for appliances. Open-box and scratch-and-dent units are sold in regular stores. "Appliance outlet" stores are usually independent liquidators. More in is there a Home Depot outlet store?
Shopping for a range too?
If you're redoing a kitchen and laundry at the same time, many of the same tips apply. See Home Depot gas range clearance.

Frequently asked questions
Does Home Depot sell floor model washers and dryers?
Often, yes. Stores sell display units when models change or space is needed. Ask an appliance associate. Floor models may not be listed online.
When is the best time to buy a washer and dryer at Home Depot?
Holiday appliance sales (like Presidents Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day and Black Friday) are good for new pairs. Clearance on older models often shows up when new models arrive. Open-box and scratch-and-dent deals can show up any time.
Are scratch and dent washers worth it?
Often, if the damage is cosmetic and on a side that will be hidden. Check that it runs, has all parts, and comes with a warranty you're comfortable with.
Can you return a clearance washer or dryer?
Major appliances have their own return rules, and open-box or as-is units may be different again. Ask the store and get the terms on your receipt before you pay.
