Home Depot Gas Stove Clearance: Ranges, Floor Models and Open Box
In this guide 7 sections
Where gas stove clearance comes from
Gas ranges rarely sit on a shelf with a yellow tag. Clearance usually comes from:
- Floor models: display ranges sold when the store changes its lineup.
- Open box: returned units, sometimes never installed.
- Scratch and dent: cosmetic damage from shipping or handling.
- Discontinued models: older models cleared when new ones arrive.
Each one is usually a single unit at a single store. Many aren't listed online. Ask an appliance associate, and ask at more than one store. Our appliance clearance guide covers how Home Depot handles all of these.
When to buy
| When | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Holiday appliance sales | Price cuts on new ranges, sometimes with delivery promos |
| Black Friday | Some of the year's biggest appliance promos. See Black Friday vs clearance |
| New model arrivals | Older models marked down |
| Any time | Open-box and scratch-and-dent units |
A holiday sale price on a new range with full warranty can beat a mild clearance discount. A big markdown on a floor model can beat both. Compare.
Inspect before you buy
Gas ranges have more parts to check than most appliances:
- Burners and igniters. Ask if it can be tested, or ask what the store checked.
- Grates and burner caps. These go missing on display models.
- Oven door, glass and racks. Check the seal and that racks are included.
- Control knobs and panel. Cracks and missing knobs are common on floor models.
- Damage location. A dent on the side next to a cabinet won't show. A dent on the front will.
- Fuel type. Is it set for natural gas or propane (LP)? If you need LP, ask whether the conversion kit is included.
Budget for the extras
A clearance price is only part of the cost:
- Gas connector. Use a new one for each installation.
- Installation. Gas hookups should be done by a qualified installer. Some areas require a licensed plumber or gas fitter.
- Delivery and haul-away. Often included on new purchases during promos, but not always on clearance or open-box units.
- Anti-tip bracket. Ranges should be secured. Make sure the bracket is included.
Add these up before you decide if the deal is really a deal.
Returns and warranty
Major appliances have their own return rules, and open-box or as-is units can be different again. Ask:
- Does the manufacturer warranty still apply?
- Can you add a protection plan?
- What are the return terms for this unit?

Doing laundry too?
Washers and dryers clear the same way. See Home Depot washer and dryer clearance.

Frequently asked questions
Does Home Depot put gas ranges on clearance?
Yes, mostly as floor models, open-box returns, scratch-and-dent units and discontinued models. These are usually one-off units, so ask at the appliance desk.
When is the best time to buy a gas stove at Home Depot?
Holiday appliance sales are good for new ranges. Older models often go on clearance when new models arrive. Open-box and scratch-and-dent ranges show up any time.
Can a natural gas range be used with propane?
Many ranges can be converted with an LP conversion kit, which is sometimes included and sometimes sold separately. Conversion should be done by a qualified installer.
Does a clearance range include installation?
Not always. Clearance and open-box units may not include free delivery or installation. Ask what's included and budget for a new gas connector and professional hookup.
